This
project will be prepared with Excel (or equivalent Spreadsheet).
Create
a spreadsheet application that will be of use instructionally.
Develop a spreadsheet on a topic you and your students would
be interested in. It
should be designed to serve as a learning tool and/or research tool.
This
project will result in an instructionally useful spreadsheet.
You will be submitting (a) a spread sheet which shows all the
necessary values and labels, (b) a spread sheet which shows all
values, labels, and formulas, (c) a spread sheet chart, (d) row and
column headers on one of the two spreadsheet printouts, and
(e) a description of your project.
If
you decide on using a survey, include a list of the questions you
wish to collect data on.
Use
a word processor to write a description of your learning activity
(see Appendix C of class packet).
1)
Description of Learning Activity
Your
description should include:
1)
Topic
2)
Grade
level
3)
Illinois
Learning Standards
4)
National
Educational Technology Standards for Students
5)
A
rationale - this should address why this topic would be good to use
with the students. This
includes:
a.
Why students would be interested in this topic.
b.
What students will gain by learning this topic?
(e.g., What learning and/or study skills, concepts, and/or
content would they obtain or reinforce?)
c.
How knowledge of this topic relates to their future learning and
skill development.
6)
Goals
- What are the reasons to teach this topic?
For example the A-Mazed spreadsheet may have these broad
goals.
a. Students will develop skills needed for scientific
inquiry.
b.
Students will be able to determine which incentive was the most
effective.
c.
Students will develop research and observational skills.
d.
Students will gain an in depth understanding of operant
conditioning.
7)
Description - how you will introduce the topic and the development
of this spreadsheet to your students.
You may want to describe the first day's lesson you would
engage your students in to introduce them to the topic (This is not
an activity for them to learn to use the spreadsheet).
This should include:
a.
A thorough description of the lesson your students will engage.
b.
How you will evaluate that your students have learned from this
lesson
2)
Structure of the spreadsheet
The
contents and structure of the spreadsheet will depend on your topic.
You will be using labels, values, and formula in your
spreadsheet as well as exploring charting.
3)
Resources
Bring
whatever books or notes you need to help you gain the knowledge you
need to develop a learning spreadsheet.
Feel free to discuss your topic with me.
